Here are some of our favorite things to do when it rains.
If you are in Portland, the best parks to visit in the rain are Washington Park's Elephant Playground and Wallace Park. Both are largely covered by trees and you don't get entirely soaked...not entirely.
If you are in Missoula, Cara's Park is a great place to bring kids during rainy days. I also like La Fray Park.
Oftentimes, rainy days are also windy days. So keep a kite handy and when the rain dies down (or not!), take your kite onto a grassy field and fly it.
Bubbles are great for rainy days. The bubbles look beautiful in a light sprinkle. You can add a bit of dye to the bubbles to make colored bubbles if you'd like.
What happens when you combine chalk and water? Well, more of a pastel paste and it works wonders outside or inside. Consider bringing a canvas outside under the patio cover. Have the kids draw for a bit with the chalk and when it's wet enough, invite them to try it on the canvas. So cool!
Who doesn't love a great hunt! This is one of our favorite activities when we are out for a walk. We see how many puddles we can find on the way to the store, the garden, or just out-and-about.
Rescue Worms from the Sidewalk
Worms get trapped on sidewalks and squished by feet or bicycles. We like to pick them up and put them back onto the dirt or grass.
